Shrove Tuesday, aka Pancake Day is your annual excuse to eat an unreasonable amount of maple syrup covered pancake stacks in a 24 hour period; and luckily, Bristol has plenty of places you can go if you take this day very seriously (we certainly do).
How do you like your pancakes? We don’t discriminate, if it’s a classic stack, French crêpe, or something wildly over the top that takes your fancy, this list has all of them. Where will you be headed this Tuesday?
The Pancake Man | Wapping Wharf
The clue is in the name, The Pancake Man is where you go if you’re looking for one thing and one thing only, pancakes. It’s small, independent and always worth the queue. Everything’s gluten free (you honestly wouldn’t guess), and you can go sweet, savoury or full chaos with fried chicken and maple syrup. A strong start to this list.
Mud Dock Café | Harbourside
When in Bristol it would be rude not to try pancakes with a waterfront view, right? Right. If you’re into thick buttermilk stacks topped with bacon and syrup, berries and yoghurt, or Nutella and banana – this is the place for you. Reliable, generous and very Bristol.
Chez Marcel | Old City
Pancake day, but make it French. No thick stacks over here, this one is for the crepe lovers! This cosy French spot does buckwheat galettes for savoury fans as well as classic sweet crêpes, why not do both?! You can also add cider and pretend you’re in Brittany. Oui, s’il vous plaît!
Fluffy Fluffy | Park Street
Feel like trying something a bit different? These are the tall, jiggly Japanese soufflé pancakes you’ve definitely seen on Instagram and TikTok (if you haven’t – take a look). Light, airy and almost too pretty to eat. Fluffy Fluffy’s Park Street store is minutes from all our Urban Student accommodation, so you don’t have to walk too far home once your belly is full!
Coppa Club | Clifton
Feeling a more grown up pancake situation? Berry compôte and mascarpone perhaps?; or bacon and maple syrup if you’re not overthinking it. Coppa Club in Clifton is perfect, and a great spot to cosy on down and stay for a while.
Cosy Club | Corn Street
Big stacks in a very grand setting. All the classic toppings and generous portions. Cosy club has everything you’re looking for if you want a classic pancake stack experience. Bonus points if you turn it into a bottomless brunch.
The Ivy Clifton Brasserie | Clifton Village
Posh pancakes. If you like your pancakes with a side of fancy, this is your place. Buttermilk pancakes, loads of berries, warm sauce. Done well.
The Crepe & Coffee Cabin | Harbourside
Small cabin, big crêpes. Grab one to go and eat it by the water, grab one on your lunch break, in the morning, after a night out. Sweet or savoury – they’ve got plenty of choice.
The Crafty Egg | Stokes Croft
If there’s a queue, trust me you’ll want to wait in it. Think big delicious portions with pancakes sitting happily alongside huge brunch plates. You won’t leave hungry, that’s a promise.
Boston Tea Party | Park Street
A solid, dependable pancake option. Good coffee, good atmosphere, and stacks that do exactly what you need them to. You can also see our new 60ft x 60ft mural from the back garden too!
The Lounge | North Street
Looking for a South Bristol pancake fix? This is your stop. Triple stacks, loads of toppings, relaxed neighbourhood feel. Perfect for shrove Tuesday.
Cathay Rendezvous | King Street
Are pancakes not 100% your thing, but you still want to get involved in the day? This is not your typical Pancake Day choice – but in our opinion, crispy duck pancakes absolutely count. If you’re going savoury, go properly savoury at this delicious Chinese restaurant.
CUPP x Moomin Boba House | Park Row
Bright, colourful and a nostalgic. Their themed pancake stacks are as fun as they sound, and you can pair them with bubble tea or fruity lemonade. If you want something fun, cute, a bit different, and highly instagrammable – go here.
Mollie’s Motel & Diner | Cribbs Causeway
A bit further out of the city, but if you want do it all American way, slide into a booth and order a proper American style stack. Fluffy pancakes, classic toppings and thick milkshakes on the side in a 1960s themed American diner. It’s retro, it’s bold, and it doesn’t do things by halves.
However you’re celebrating, there’s no shortage of great pancake spots in Bristol. If you are carb loading on pancakes this Tuesday – let us know where you end up 🥞
