At Urban Student, our tenants’ well-being is our top priority. We know that balancing finances with University life is becoming more challenging each year, especially as the cost of living continues to rise. While we provide premium student accommodation, we’re fully aware of the financial pressures facing students in Bristol and across the UK.
The numbers speak for themselves. Student living costs are increasing faster than ever, and unfortunately, student loans are struggling to keep up. In fact, 64% of students report that their loans don’t cover basic living expenses. Even more concerning is the toll this takes on mental health – 90% of students say that the current cost-of-living crisis is impacting their mental well-being.
As a high-end student accommodation provider, we recognise that our offerings cater to a specific demographic, not the entirety of the student population. That’s why we approach conversations around student finance with care, understanding that the cost-of-living crisis is affecting many of our tenants and their families.
Easing the Financial Burden with Fixed-Rate Accommodation
Interest rates in the UK are on the rise, and with that comes the challenge of securing stable, affordable housing. For students, this often means they settle into university accommodation, only to face a significant hike in rent the following year, forcing them to find new housing and navigate the housing market once again. This instability disrupts their comfort and adds unnecessary stress.
At Urban Student, we believe in making student life as stable and enjoyable as possible. To support our tenants, we’re now offering two-year fixed-rate contracts for student accommodations. With this option, payments remain consistent, allowing students to budget more effectively for other essential expenses. No more worrying about rising rent costs halfway through university – just a reliable, predictable housing cost that helps students focus on what really matters: their education and well-being.
Addressing the UK’s Student Housing Shortfall
The UK is projected to face a shortage of around 450,000 student beds by 2025 (according to data from StuRents). With additional changes on the horizon, such as the potential ban on fixed-term tenancies, it’s becoming increasingly difficult to see how the private rental sector will support the growing student population.
As a private accommodation provider, we’re committed to being part of the solution. We’re proud to offer this new fixed-rate option to students moving to Bristol, giving them more security and peace of mind in uncertain times.
