If you’ve ever walked around Manor House in Bristol, chances are you’ve met Apricot — the resident British Shorthair who has captured the hearts of students and staff alike. This isn’t just a regular cat; she’s become a part of the Urban Student family and a beloved icon amongst Manor House tenants.

Apricot was born in November 2020 at a special cattery in Plymouth. She grew up with a sibling and shared her early days with a dog, learning social skills and curiosity along the way. On Valentine’s Day 2021, Apricot arrived at Manor House as a very special gift to her owner, Crystel.

Life at Manor House

From the moment she arrived, Apricot showed she had a head for house rules. She quickly learned the ropes, from walking around the garden at just three months old to becoming a well-behaved, yet affectionate, companion. She knows what she likes. Her favourite foods include salmon, shrimp, lobster, and chicken, though she’s not a fan of rabbit meat. Like all divas should, Apricot won’t use the litter tray twice — she’ll let Crystel know when it’s time for a clean. She is certainly one of our cleanest tenants!

Apricot also has her own strict feeding routine: she waits patiently until Crystel tells her it’s time to eat, only eating her food when she’s truly hungry. And if she’s full? The leftovers go in the fridge for later — she’ll let you know when she’s ready to continue. Iconic.

Personality Purrr-fected

Apricot has a personality that’s impossible to ignore:

  • She prefers women over men
  • She’s fiercely loyal, following Crystel from room to room
  • She can be a little grumpy if left alone for days, but quickly forgives when her human returns
  • She loves a cuddle

Her big personality has made her a favourite among Manor House students, many of whom love to snap photos of her as she strolls around the property or lounges in her favourite sunspot.

Keep an eye out for her next time you’re around Manor House — she might just come say hello! 🐾
