As the weather gets colder, nothing beats the warmth of a hearty Sunday roast. There’s something comforting about enjoying a delicious meal indoors on a chilly Sunday, especially when someone else is doing the cooking! Luckily, you don’t have to go far in Bristol to find an incredible roast dinner. The city has a variety of places, from cosy pubs to stylish restaurants, all offering mouth-watering Sunday dinners. Here’s a roundup of the best places to get your Sunday roast fix this winter in Bristol.

The Ostrich

Clifton, Bristol | Pub

After a stroll along the harbourside, head to The Ostrich for a perfect roast. Choose from a variety of meats such as beef, pork, chicken, or even a vegetarian butternut squash Wellington. All roasts come with all the classic trimmings: roast potatoes, Yorkshire pudding, seasonal greens, crushed carrot and swede, maple-roast parsnips, and rich red wine gravy.

Harbour House

Harbourside, Bristol | Pub

Harbour House serves up a traditional Sunday roast all day long, featuring locally sourced Hereford beef and Gloucester Old Spot pork. Occasionally, they even add live music to the mix, making it the perfect spot for a laid-back Sunday lunch.

Riverstation

Harbourside, Bristol | Restaurant

With stunning views of the harbour, Riverstation offers a choice of starters before diving into their hearty roasts. There are plenty of vegan and vegetarian options too, so it’s a great choice for everyone!

The Old Market Assembly

Old Market, Bristol | Restaurant

Perfect for those who want to enjoy a roast before catching a show at The Wardrobe Theatre, The Old Market Assembly offers a range of locally sourced meats. Their roasts are served until 6pm, so you won’t have to rush through your meal.

The Ox

Bristol City Centre | Steakhouse

If you’re in the mood for a more decadent roast, The Ox is the place to be; known for its exceptional steaks. For larger groups, they also offer sharing roasts. And if someone in your party isn’t in the mood for a roast, there are plenty of other small plates and steaks on the menu – win win.

BANK

Totterdown, Bristol | Restaurant

BANK restaurant has earned a spot in the Top 10 Roasts in the UK, thanks to its locally sourced meat and inventive dishes. For a more indulgent experience, share a roast such as a whole roast chicken or a 20oz sirloin. Most dishes can be made gluten-free, and many of their ingredients come from nearby farms.

Bocabar

Finzels Reach & Paintworks, Bristol | Cafe-Bar

Whether you’re at the modern Bocabar in Finzels Reach or the quirky location in Paintworks, you’ll find a satisfying roast here. If you just want a classic roast with all the trimmings, Bocabar is the place!

The Cottage

Bristol Harbourside | Pub

Tucked by the Floating Harbour, The Cottage serves a classic roast with all the trimmings. You can enjoy your roast while taking in the views of Bristol’s iconic painted houses.

The Cow & Sow

Queen Square & Whiteladies Road, Bristol | Chophouse

For a relaxed Sunday roast, head to The Cow & Sow. Enjoy slow-cooked beef brisket or porchetta, or opt for a sweet potato Wellington if you prefer a veggie roast. They also have sharing steaks and small plates for those who want to mix it up.

The Maple Lounge

Bristol | Restaurant

Indulge in a delicious Sunday roast at The Maple Lounge, where you can choose from beef, pork, or a trio of roasts. Kids can enjoy a smaller portion of the Sunday roast, making it the perfect spot for a family meal.

Hort’s Townhouse

Bristol City Centre | Gastropub

Hort’s Townhouse offers a spacious and stylish setting for a Sunday roast. Their roasts are served from 12pm to 9pm, so it’s perfect for late risers. Evening roast anyone?

The Canteen

Stokes Croft, Bristol | Bar-Restaurant

The Canteen is a veggie haven, offering unique and hearty roasts like a vegan beetroot Wellington with tofu filling and a gluten-free mushroom, squash, and spinach savoury crumble. They also have kids’ roasts and a great selection of desserts that cater to all.

The White Hart

Littleton Apon Severn

So, this one might be a little further out of Bristol than the others, but it’s one of my personal favourites! The White Hart in Littleton-upon-Severn is a charming village pub overlooking stunning countryside that offers a delightful roast dinner. Nestled just outside of Bristol, this traditional English pub serves up hearty, home-cooked roasts that are perfect for a cosy Sunday afternoon by the fire.
