The Bristol property developer, Urban Creation, is offsetting its emissions to become carbon neutral for Scope 1 and 2 of the business.

Urban Creation has announced that it is carbon neutral for Scope 1 and 2 of the business.

In partnership with SQSTR, the business is offsetting its carbon emissions via tree planting and is also offsetting its employee’s emissions by enrolling in SQSTR’s employee offset scheme; planting a set number of trees a month to ensure employees are 100% offset both at work and at home.

All of Urban Creation’s trees will be planted in a planting site based in Aslockton, Nottinghamshire.

Jonathan Brecknell, director of Urban Creation said ‘Focusing on environmental, social and governance (ESG) issues has become an important priority for us. The more we have grown as a business, the more we want to reduce our carbon footprint. Following Cop26, we decided to take a bigger step forward and offset as much of our emissions as possible.’

The decision to become carbon neutral was easy for the business. Urban Creation regularly tries to find new ways to become more sustainable through its outputs. The company always exceeds Bristol City Council’s 20% renewable resources target in all its developments, and insulates its buildings to the best of their capacity. They have also recently moved electricity supply in all of their buildings to EDF Green Energy, who are Britain’s largest generator of zero carbon electricity.

WHAT ARE SCOPE 1 AND 2?

  • Scope 1 covers direct Green House Gas emissions a company makes directly from the owned or controlled sources.
  • Scope 2 covers indirect emissions which come from the generation of purchased electricity, steam, heating and cooling consumed by the company.
  • Scope 3 emissions are from the result of activities from assets that are not owned or controlled by the organization, but that the organization indirectly impacts in its value chain. Like from buying products from suppliers, and from its products when customers use them.
